Student Academic Success Programs Conference: Fall 2015

On Saturday, September 26, 2015, representatives from the Office of Disability Services presented to over 50+ students on Disability Etiquette & Awareness as well as Strategies and Tips for helping students with Learning Disabilities for the Student Academic Success Programs (SASP) Conference.
There were over 250+ students in attendance at the conference! Tabitha & Megan presented during two of three break-out sessions for the conference and Vanessa took the lead with conversations with several students regarding assistive technology and other services the ODS provides to students.
This dynamic trio made contact with several students during the conference and brought much awareness to the ODS and about individuals with disabilities in a fun and informative way!

ODS Participates in the 13th Annual Hays ISD Dyslexia Fair

The 13th Annual Hays ISD Dyslexia Fair was held on October 20, 2015 at the Hays ISD Activity Center where students with dyslexia from early education through 12th grade came to learn more information about resources available to them. Assistant Director, David Hunt and Accessibility Service Coordinator, Gerardo Altamirano, spoke to students about the accommodations they can expect once admitted to college as well as the types of assistive technology Texas State Offers.


Learning Ally and Bookshare were present to provide information about accessible texts. There was also a panel of students who came to share testimonials on how to effectively use tools that helped them be academically successful. Austin Community College and Texas State University were present to share information regarding services provided at the collegiate level for academic accommodations for students with disabilities. Texas State University- Office of Disability Services was asked to be a part of this event by Ms. Cathy Salyers, Hays ISD Dyslexia Teacher.
