The Criss Cole Center College Prep Class of 2015, Visits Texas State!
"Answering the questions and spending the day with us allowed us to grow in the knowledge we have as we go into college for ourselves and if you had not answered the questions we had for you, we would not be as ready we are now, as we would still be unsure of the accommodations that we have access to in college. I would also like to let you know that some of our class this year enjoyed Texas State, and all it has to offer and have found lots of new interest in possibly attending."
- College Prep class of 2015
The College Prep Call of 2015 from the Criss Cole Center in Austin, TX, toured Texas State on June 22nd. This group of students were eager to learn about Texas State as well as the resources available to them as individuals with disabilities.
The Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center (CCRC) within the DARS Division for Blind Services is a comprehensive vocational rehabilitation training facility working in partnership with consumers to help them achieve their employment and independent living goals.
It was a great experience for both the ODS staff and the College Prep Class of 2015!

HIV Awareness Testing Campaign & ODS Celebration
On Thursday, April 16, 2015 the Office of Disability Services partnered with the Bienestar Grant & PartySafe to host an HIV Awareness Testing Campaign. Students were able to recognize the risk factors associated with unsafe sex. Students also gained the ability to know their own HIV status and students were able to work collaboratively with the Office of Disability Services for student support. With education, students will be able to begin to get rid of the stigma that comes with those that are HIV positive. Students were also able to learn their HIV status in a confidential way. They learned about the on campus resources such as the Office of Disability Services in case they need support if they receive a positive status.
This Inaugural ODS Celebration took place in the LBJ Student Center Amphitheater. The purpose of this event was to allow students, faculty and staff an opportunity to interact with the Office of Disability Services at Texas State. Attendees also had the chance to see what services that ODS offers along with enjoying music, food and good fun.
Thanks to everyone that came and supported this event!
