Campus Accessibility

Campus Terrain
The Texas State campus is housed on a hill overlooking the city and downtown San Marcos.  Due to the hilly terrain, the campus may be a challenge for some persons with mobility impairments.  Texas State Campus Maps
website includes accessible directions, parking and entrances for most buildings on campus.  Select an individual building to view the access identifiers.

University Housing
Housing & Residential Life offers a variety of on and off-campus living options for students.  Students who may require an accommodation in a residence hall or university owned apartment must follow the procedures outlined in the Requests for University Housing Accommodations Based on Disability-Related Needs.

Fire and Emergency Evacation
If you are a student with a physical disability at Texas State, the university has Fire and Emergency Evacuation Procedures for Persons with Disabilities.  It is important to familiarize yourself with, and follow these procedures in the event of a fire or emergency.

Gender Neutral Restrooms
The university has accessible gender neutral restroom facilities in several campus facilities for those with special needs.

Parking For Persons With Disabilities
Designated disabled persons parking is available on university streets, in parking lots and garages throughout campus.  Persons must display a state-issued disabled license plate or hang tag to park in designated disabled parking spaces.  State of Texas disabled parking permits are available through County Tax offices.  Please refer to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles for additional information.  For information regarding disabled persons parking at Texas State visit Parking Services.

Service/Assistance Animals
Individuals requiring the use of a service/assistance animal on campus must meet the criteria for accommodations and/or services outlined in the Procedures Service Animals.

Transportation Services
The Texas State Bobcat Tram provides transportation to students living in the immediate San Marcos area and limited service to Austin.  All the buses are lift-equipped to meet Federal ADA requirements.  Students with disabilities who have questions or need special accommodations should contact the department of Auxiliary Services
