Upon request, the ODS will make every effort to provide books and academic-related information (e.g., handouts, syllabi) in audio or in alternate format for enrolled students with disabilities who qualify for this accommodation. A completed “Request for Recorded Textbook” form must accompany each reading request. This form must contain bibliographic information for the book including complete title, author, and edition. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.
The ODS strives to complete requests in a timely manner, but please note that requests may take 1-2 weeks for arrival. Requests are prioritized according to the date received. We suggest that students register early for classes and speak with instructors to obtain reading assignments before classes begin, if possible. By providing the ODS with this information before the beginning of the semester, it can assist us in fulfilling requests in a timely manner.
The ODS may acquire some textbooks from Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) on CD. Otherwise, readers hired through the ODS will record other materials in audio format. A student who is provided with recorded textbooks and/or equipment will be required to check out and return all materials at the end of the semester for which reading is requested. Failure to return materials will result in a hold placed on the student’s account.
