Interpreting Services

To request an interpreter for classes each semester:
Any Texas State Deaf or hard of hearing student who needs interpreting services for a semester must complete a "Request for Interpreters, Course Schedule" form (available at the ODS) before, or at the beginning of the semester that services are needed.  Due to the high demand for interpreting services, and the limited number of qualified interpreters in the I-35 area, interpreters are assigned to classes on a first-come, first-serve basis.  So it is important to make your request early.

How do you do this? Complete a "Request for Interpreters: Course Schedule" form and turn it in to the Office of Disability Services Interpreter Coordinator, Debbie Cole.

To request an interpreter for a special appointment:
The Office of Disability Services can provide interpreting services for Texas State Deaf and hard of hearing students who have an appointment or meeting that is not a regular class.  For example, interpreting services can be provided to meet with a professor, attend a lecture, visit with a representative from the Financial Aid office or attend tutoring sessions.  The ODS has a list of optimal available times each semester for special request's.

How do you do this? Complete the Interpreter Request or Cancellation on line form or a "Request for Interpreters: Special Appointment" form (available at the ODS) and turn it in at least three days prior to the event to the Office of Disability Services Interpreter Coordinator, Debbie Cole.

To cancel an interpreter:
It is very important to notify the Office of Disability Services Interpreter Coordinator if you do not need an interpreter for a class or a special appointment.

How do you do this? Complete the Interpreter Request or Cancellation on line form or a "Request for Interpreters: Cancellation" form (available at the ODS) and turn it in to the Office of Disability Services Interpreter Coordinator, Debbie Cole.  Notice should be made as soon as possible or at least 24 hours before the class or appointment is scheduled to begin.

To request an interpreter for final exams:
A special request needs to be turned in if interpreting services are needed for final exams.  Interpreters regularly scheduled for classes are only available through the last class day unless requested.

How do you do this? Complete the Interpreter Request or Cancellation on line form or a "Request for Interpreters: Final Exams" form (available at the ODS) and turn it in to the Office of Disability Services Interpreter Coordinator, Debbie Cole.
