Law and Policy

The Office of Disability Services at Texas State provides accommodations and support services for students with disabilities in accordance with Federal laws, including Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act and university policy.

Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act
Requires colleges and universities that receive Federal financial assistance (including student loans) to make their programs and facilities accessible to individuals with disabilities.

1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in employment, state and local government services, businesses that are public accommodations or commercial facilities, and in transportation. The ADA also mandates the establishment of telephone relay services for people who use TTYs (telecommunications devices for deaf persons).
