Interpreter Screening

Interpreters interested in working at Teas State University-San Marcos must participate in a screening interview prior to finalizing employment.  The interview process includes the following steps: 
  • Complete screening packet
  • Provide copy of driver's license, social security card and interpreter certification
  • Review & discuss experience and background
  • Texas State's perspective:
  • Teaming
  • Code of ethics 
  • Student self-advocacy 
  • Interpreting service policies 
  • Pertinent pay rates
  • Level I
  • Level II
  • Level III/CI or CT/CSC
  • Level IV/CI & CT
  • Level V
  • Travel
  • Hands-On meeting mandatory (each semester)
  • Will be added to the substitute list
  • Screening samples
    • Select a tape from the list of lecture excerpts
      • ASL/conceptual
      • Oral with sign support
