Teaching Strategies

Course syllabus
Provide a detailed course syllabus to students before registration and/or early in the semester. This enables students who need to order their textbooks in alternate format (i.e., audio tape, Braille, CD) the necessary time to do so. It also enables those students who need to utilize time management strategies the opportunity to develop a detailed and course specific academic planner for the semester.

Expectations
Outline course expectations at the beginning of the course (e.g., grading policy, material to be covered, exams dates, due dates).

Reading assignments
Announce reading assignments well in advance to accommodate those students who are using alternate format materials.

Outline
Begin each lecture with an outline of the material to be covered and conclude class with a summary of key points.

Q&A
Provide opportunities for questions and answers during class and offer review sessions.

Study questions
Provide study questions for exams that demonstrate the format of the upcoming test.
