Campus Accessibility

  • ACCOMMODATION STATEMENT: Program or event statement - In order for university programs and events to be accessible an accommodation statement should be included on program fliers, brochures and in event announcements.  An accommodation statement may read:

    'If you require an accommodation (information in alternate format, sign language interpreting) due to a disability, email the program contact person of the event.  Accommodation requests should be made at least 72 hours in advance of the program start time to ensure availability."

  • LOCATION: Texas State University-San Marcos is located in the hill country of central Texas in the city of San Marcos. San Marcos is located one hour north of San Antonio and thirty minutes south of the state capital of Austin.
  • TERRAIN: The campus is housed on a hill overlooking the city and downtown San Marcos. Due to the hilly terrain, the campus of Texas State University-San Marcos may be a challenge for some persons with mobility impairments.  Texas State Campus Maps website includes accessible directions, parking and entrances for most buildings on campus.  Select an individual building to view the access identifiers. 
  • FIRE AND EMERGENCY EVACUATION: If you are a faculty, staff or student with a physical disability at Texas State University-San Marcos, the university has Fire and Emergency Evacuation Procedures for Persons with Disabilities It is important to familiarize yourself with, and follow these procedures in the event of a fire or emergency.

  • GENDER NEUTRAL RESTROOMS: The university has accessible gender neutral restroom facilities in several campus facilities for those with special needs.
  • PARKING: Designated disabled persons parking is available in parking lots throughout the campus.  Persons must display a state-issued disabled license plate or hang tag to park in these space.  For additional information visit Parking Services.
  • SERVICE/ASSISTANCE ANIMALS: Individuals requiring the use of a service/assistance animal on campus must meet the criteria for accommodations and/or services outlined in the Procedures for Service Animals.   

  • TRANSPORTATION: The Texas State Tram provides transportation to students living in the immediate San Marcos area and limited service to Austin. All the buses are lift-equipped to meet Federal ADA requirements. Students with disabilities who have questions or need special accommodations should contact the department of Auxiliary Services
  • TTY's: The university has courtesy and pay TTY's available at various locations on campus.  In addition, Relay Texas can facilitate communication for those without at TTY.
